Dollar General is having a clearance event 2/10 through 2/12. Match this clearance event with coupons and you can get an awesome deal on so many things!! Here is what I was able to score yesterday (4 stores).
A couple of things to note: Dollar General DOES allow overage. If you have a cashier who doesn't believe that, simply (and politely) directly them to the policy that is located on a stand at every register. The policy is about halfway down that page, and is title "coupon overage" - it basically says that if a customer presents a coupon that is higher that the selling price, then the overage is applied to the basket.
However, if your coupon does not scan (even if you clearly have the right item), there is not much the cashier can do other than manually put in the coupon for 1 penny less than the selling price. Don't get upset. You are still getting the item for (nearly) free. It is not the cashier's fault - it is the way the system is set up.
With that said, here's what I did!

NOTE: Not all CG items were ringing up correctly. I was afraid of this, so for any item that did not have price tag on it, I attached a post-it note with the shelf price and what the price should be ringing up (10% off plus 50% off). That way the cashier and I could both watch for prices ringing correctly.
Also note: The CG coupon for some reason was not working on some items. There really seemed no rhyme or reason why. What I ended up doing was having the cashier ring one item then scan the coupon. If the coupon didn't attach, the cashier could then put it in manually. This was MUCH easier than waiting until the end of the transaction due to their antiquated system.
