This is kind of where the story takes a turn .... My husband could not find any employment after the lay off so we lived on unemployment and I had lost my Nursing Certificate so I had to re take the test which took 4 months wait to get in to do that. I was scheduled for April 2009 and I had a job lined up. My husband still had the 380 a week coming in so being that for a family of 4 that didnt cut it we applied for food stamps. We were approved for 300 a month in food stamps which when divided for 4 weeks well it was gone in just 2. To top it off I found out I was pregnant in January with our third child. (NOTE still hadnt considered using a coupon nor had it occured to me) long story short I passed the Nurse Certification challenge test in April but didnt feel safe getting the immunizations I needed for the job till after I delivered our son. I lucked out the job would wait for me I was thrilled.
My son was born in September of 2009. He after coming home for 4 days had a serious problem and we rushed to childrens. He had what they call low calcium seizures. He was in the hospital till he was 2 weeks old and came home on Phenobarbitol so yes the job had to wait a while. So we did what most people do and used credit cards as we had been doing. Paying off credit using other credit, changing companies for utilities to get better deals we made a HUGE mess. We really had no choice we had to feed the kids and with Christmas again looming I went and took that job. It meant instead of being a stay at home mom as I had been my husband would be at home with the kids while I worked. I hated leaving my 4 month old but right after the holidays I started working again. In my field you get overtime pay for anything over 8 hours a day so I would at times pick up and extra 4 to 8 hours working 6 am through 10 at night. It was too much but had to happen.
Then the next hit came I was making money still no work for my husband and so because of his unemployment and my income we lost all but $90 in food stamps and still had all that debt. It was impossible and I was torn either way I kept going until in 2011 I saw the show Extreme Couponing granted its a show that now I knock a bit but as unreal as some of the show is it opened my eyes to coupons. I was working and even with that his unemployment we couldnt afford much at all and groceries alone we spent $150 a week and got just enough food to last the week if we got that much. We had never had a vacation had just 1 good vehicle and were swimming in debt and bill collector calls. So yes I did something. I looked at my husband one night and said "I am going to go through a phase of sorts." I told him I was going to try and use coupons. I called my mother and informed her of what I was going to do as well.
THE PHASE: I was still working in fact the situation hadnt changed. I went online and spent $10 on ebay buying $100 coupon lots ( I had no idea yet where to get coupons nor how to use them right) I received my first set of coupons and went to shop. I put anything I had gotten a coupon on that we could use on the list!! BIG BIG MISTAKE!!!!! My first trips were a nightmare it was costing me more to shop. The quality of some products was better but I was definitely doing it wrong. I as most of you who chat with me am stubborn and determined when it comes to something I want so I plugged forward.
I had no family that had really gotten into couponing so I had no idea who to ask anything to. I hooked up with a friend from work who was trying the same phase and when I told my mom about what we were trying to do she told me coupons came in the sunday paper. It was my first big moment!!!! My friend and I started buying papers 5 a week each and wow we had coupons I started a binder. Still wasnt doing it right though lol.
I then started to watch that show more and more. I caught an episode that explained that you maximize savings by using a coupon on items that are already in the sale circular/ad. That is when I looked into Tops more deeply. I read the Tops Markets Coupon Policy and saw you could double coupons there but had a total misunderstanding of what that meant. I thought being that they said they doubled up to 99 cents that if I had a $.75/1 Coupon they would take off $.99 so I would use a $1/1 coupon instead to get the extra penny. I finally learned they would double it to $1,50 by accident. At this point I would take my Tops ad that I got in the Sunday paper and go through the whole thing. I was good at it. I was not good at the game memory or anything like that but for some reason I could look at an ad and just through clipping and putting my coupons into my Binder I could remember what I did or didnt have a coupon on. I had no problem being able to tell my friends what we did or didnt have and in just minutes.
I was still working and the situation was the same when I started to question the idea of a stockpile. I wondered why people would buy so much of something it was odd to me so I started watching that show again in between working clipping and being a mom. I was atleast by the end of 2011 saving serious money but still found myself having to buy some items not on sale but atleast I had a coupon. Didnt take me long to start to realize the idea of having a stockpile is that things go on sale about every 3 months and if I stocked up a but more and got enough for 3 months I wouldnt need to be buying it at full price anymore. So I started combining my coupons with sales in a larger quantity.
I started my stockpile and began with what I thought was a good stock up price but unlike what I tell people now I didnt do a $10 a week stock up I worked overtime and I stocked as much as I could of what was on sale. It wasnt easy at first I had tons of TP and paper towels and noodles and I almost quit but I kept stocking and within 6 months my stockpile had come full circle I had some of everything and the only items that made my list were what I now call Killer stock up deals. I didnt have to buy anything so I bought what was on sale at its cheapest price. I was killing it and I had now found something online I just couldnt say enough about!!! It was a site that is no longer there called SimplyFamilySavings the owner Jen scanned in a Tops ad EVERY week on Thursdays which was nice I could edit my list plan for the next weeks trip and even order coupons from anywhere in time to get them in the mail. I never used a match up she didnt really have match ups but always had the ad and that is all I needed. I would wait every thursday refreshing her website waiting to see it on the site so I could pull anything from my binder. (at this point I had no printer and only used insert coupons) For the first time in my life I was able to help out people too filling theyre cupboards from mine if anyone was in need it was a great feeling. I also was able to brighten the days of those I took care of at work with hot cocoa or nice lotions it was awesome.
Times were getting better my husband had gone back to work where he used to work before he took the better building job and I dropped down to what they called per diem I had to work 4 weekend days and pick up a certain amount of hours a month it was hard never seeing my husband but we were getting there. We planned our first real vacation in January of 2012 and it was slated for August 2012 at Allegany State Park for a 4 day stay. Times were getting better and I again started questioning how much stock I had.... Dr Phil who I had used for weight loss before has this thing he talks about. Called defining moments. These are things that happen to you that change you forever or shake you hard like to your core. They take and change the future... I was about to have one of those moments...
I thought between my sons seizures my husbands lay offs, weight loss etc that the hardest things must be over right???? NOPE life I guess doesnt work that way. This part of my story is hard to even tell it still shakes me to this day. I spent most of my time couponing working or being busy. I had a page at thid point on FB but really didnt use it posted a deal or haul every once in a while it was craziness.
In April it started maybe before then but that is when it got to me. I was in the car with a friend on the way to get a Killer water stock up and I started to feel sick. I got the water stock up and went home and it went away. I was scheduled for a double shift on that weekend and I wasnt feeling it so I called in and said I felt sick. I wasnt as sick as I told my boss. Well that was about to change. I started to feel well horrible. I have a very high pain thresh hold but this was taking me out. I called home my husband from work and drove to the ER since my doctor couldnt get me in and I was in a lot of pain. They blamed the pain on an ulcer or indigestion just basically gave me some blood work tests and a thing of protonix to make it better and sent me home. I had no fever and was sure it was something that had passed. I was still sick but hey I was doing better or so I thought. The next day it came back and I had no car (we were sharing a vehicle at this point and my husband had mine) I called my sister over so I could go talk to my doctor and that is what I did they gave me a slip for a different med and I went home.
Not sure when it was that my mom came to visit and I was still sick and trying very hard to just watch my son in fact it had gotten so bad I was actually laying around. Everything made it worse but eating made it horrendous. My mom had brought me a sub and I wouldnt touch it I shoulod have gone back to the hospital but I am as I said before stubborn. That night I had a pain that was so bad I felt like I was in labor and that was not possible. I also had had a ligation so I knew I wasnt pregnant. Something was wrong VERY VERY wrong. I called my mom she came and rushed me to the hospital. They then did a bunch of tests I had a fever a ton of pain and they werent going to let me leave they started IV antibiotics for an infection they couldnt find this went on for a week I had no idea what was wrong they had done CT scan which had ruled out everything normal and at that point the antibiotics were taking theyre toll I could not function I was yellow looking etc. And I was scared they never found out what it was and I was in the hospital and scared to have my kids even come see me. In the end an idiot diagnosed me with gallbladder problem and sent me on my way awaiting a consult.
I had that consult and after him basically saying it was and also couldnt be the cause I still sick went to the OBGYN and cried. He is the best doctor ever he couldnt figure out why they had done what they had done but suggested some tests and after everything scheduled a hysterectomy for July April thru july I was so sick I couldnt eat and would eat at night right before bed so I could hold it down I went to picnics and things but couldnt eat without having to run to the bathroom so I couldnt shop either at all. I lived like that for 4 months in the end they did my surgery to find I needed a whole other operation I had a blown appendix grown into my Uterus. I woke up and they informed me of what they had found I was so glad it was over or I thought. I went home 4 days later only to end up with a 106.5 degree temp a febrile seizure and a BP or 60 over 40 I came so close to dying it was not funny he used antibiotics that my insurance would not cover ad saved my life he met me in the ER at midnight best MD ever
My recovery was hard and even more so since the infection. I met what I feared the most the original sickness returned but this time was the last time.
Needless to say I even now cant work in Nursing due to a lift restriction and after months of not shopping the stock pile was bare. I had to restart all over again I had my friend keep up my papers but with a camp trip coming we took just pop tarts and hot dogs and went to camp 6 wks after my surgery .
I had a ton of work to do it took my mothers prying to get me to shop again it had been since April and we were in september but I finally did it and in october of 2012 less 3 months later my stockpile was thriving see pics below or CLICK HERE

See I still wasn't a Blogger just a fan of that early ad. Time went on and my stock grew I donated a lot got my mom into it or started to and I was doing great . That is when I figured out how to maximize gas savings and finally i got free gas. This totally did it for me now I saved on groceries and gas it made my budget way more live able. That is when I started more and more to use my Facebook page I wanted to try and help people save money. I had no website nor did I want one I used my page to show people where they could see the ad early.
In august 2013 Jen the Original owner of the site that had the early ad had decided on a new direction called Home In The Finger Lakes she now has a Facebook page here and website here she has a really great site for recipes and other Tips that I highly recommend. She also had some other things going on and could not manage that early scan. That is where I came in. I was in need of that scan and I knew others were too and so I started to scan it in with my PC and printer and post right onto the facebook page that I had. I had decided to also put it on Jens page so her readers could see it. Granted when you post something to a page on Facebook it goes way on the left hand side of the page and noone really gets to see it. I had no idea about groups where people would have been able to see it. Granted I was getting my ad on Friday instead of Thursdays

After some weeks in 2013 of me posting the ad onto Jen's page I came home from shopping to a private message on Facebook on October 16th 2013 it was from Jen and it said :Hi D'Anna Thank you for sharing your ad scan on my facebook page. I have added you as an admin to SFS facebook page so you can share links and posts if you would like, and have better visibility
I was so excited to be able to help get out the ad and Jen was a celebrity in my book I think I called all my friends and my mom in less then an hour. They all probably thought I was insane haha. I still had no website so I just would put scan pics right into the page. No match ups just the scan and I left it open ended and tried to put in match ups in comments under the pics to help with some of the best deals I was doing for the week. I liked that her page allowed me to help more people since she had 500 likes I had just 200 so this way I would post the ad on both pages. It was getting hard to post pics to both pages after scanning and it was taking a long time to do uploads to both of the whole ad. I knew in order to do the job right I had to do better I needed a site and knew nothing and I mean NOTHING about websites so I started to google what was an easy recomended place to get a website. I settled on Weebly it would be free but I didnt own the name the original site was www.smartqponclips.weebly.com I started it on the 28th of October 2013. My first set of Match ups were started on 10/31/2013 with the help of Jen for the scan I managed to do my first try at sinking in links definitely another learning curve and the free site was easy but to upgrade would be better and I knew it. I upgraded and bought the .com domain November 2nd 2013 I also lacked direct links to coupons co I had to link people to the regular coupon pages and they had to search for the coupon I had listed.
Here is another message on November 6th from me to Jen about doublers : omg I hope they aren't there they love to put them out with a new gas points promo too I am scared lol that makes matchups harder I can match for myself it takes like 10 minutes because we use what we use but a whole ad is kinda tricky but its kind of fun lol so far that is a bit exhausting hopefully I get better and quicker at it

My first ability to get a Thursday ad was 11/14/2013 and ever since except on snow storm I have been able to get it up every week by Thursday. Jen did the most amazing thing after that she had been taking a break but when she came back she was for sure she was done with SimplyFamilySavings and instead of deleting the page off Facebook she transferred it to me around the end of November 2013 . That is when my page SimplySmartQponClips Began on Facebook. I literally was just so thrilled to share the ad on a site and match up some things as best i could to help people save money I felt like I won the lottery when she gave me the page. Soon I figured out I could merge my 2 pages together as one which brought the likes up to around 700 total which I was so glad to have that many and be getting more.
I gained after that my source for my ad most wednesday's and I gained other sources too all the things that came to pass all worked in concert to get me to where I am. Now I have affiliates that help afford the site and expenses/Giveaways for the site. For instance when you guys print a coupon 3 cents goes into my affiliate account. I love what I do and I do what i do as best I can all the time. My #1 goal is to help every one get past all the bumps in the road I had so they can get on the fast track to savings. Cant say there is a better job or one I could do that could help as many people as I think I have helped. I will never quit I love it too much. I have met so many great people too and have now some of the best friends I could hope for. Every fan and beginner matters to me I spend much of time walking people through anything they need help with to get them to where I am today. If you have something you want to ask or that you would like me to add feel free to contact me below

Every fan and beginner matters to me I spend much of time walking people through anything they need help with to get them to where I am today.
